Why I am a Champion for this Cause
It’s so important for our kids to learn how to grow their own food, buy healthy foods on a budget and prepare meals using what’s available every season.
Seed-to-Table brings together youth of all ages with different experiences in the garden, at the grocery store and in the kitchen. They learn about our local food system from farmers, urban gardeners, nutritionists and chefs. But more importantly, they learn from one another – all of the different ways of growing, preparing and enjoying food together. And of course, we can’t forget, they learn how to clean up the kitchen!
My favorite part of Seed-to-Table is the culminating experience – the cooking competition! Josh has been facilitating junior iron chef competitions with youth for the past 4 years. I love to see how well kids rise to the challenge of putting together a healthy meal with limited ingredients in a short amount of time. These are skills that will last a lifetime!
